Update of Harea Sector Data

When I originally created data for Harea Sector back in 2011-2012, all of the nearby sectors were shown as uninhabited on TravellerMap, so I put all of the worlds of Harea Sector as uninhabited, too. However, since then, the not-uninhabited Group One version of Theta Borealis Sector was re-canonised and put on TravellerMap, and Ade “Alagoric” Stewart created new data for Mavuzog Sector (located spinward of Theta Borealis and directly coreward of Harea) also featuring many inhabited worlds. This left a strange boundary between these inhabited sectors and the uninhabited Harea Sector (as well as various other nearby sectors which have older data containing only uninhabited worlds, such as Khaeaw, Astron and others).

To resolve this discrepancy, Ade Stewart and I collaborated to create a new version of the sector data for Harea Sector. This version features the same world positions and physical characteristics as my original data, but it introduces inhabited worlds which link the sector to Mavuzog and Theta Borealis. There are even some new minor races! Also, the data is now in the T5SS data format instead of the older SEC.

As a side note, Ade Stewart is also the creator of the Empty Stars, a large, semi-OTU group of sectors located a few sectors away from Charted Space – not unlike my Orion OB1 AssociationCheck it out here!

Rimward Edge of the Orion OB1 Association

Previously, the main map of the Orion OB1 Association did not include the rimward edge of the Association; if you look at sectors on what used to be the bottom row of the table (coordinate Rimward 12), such as Omega Orionis Sector and Upsilon Orionis Sector, their pages indicate they are located entirely inside the Association, so its rimward edge must be beyond the map. This was partly because I hadn’t decided precisely how far rimward I wanted the Orion OB1 Association to extend; I have now decided the rimward edge lies one row of sectors beyond the original map, at coordinate Rimward 13, and have added a row to the table for those sectors. The newly named sectors include Theta-2 Orionis Sector and U Orionis Sector.

Orion OB1 Association vs. Orion Molecular Cloud Complex

Recently, I noticed that the name Orion OB1 Association I’d been using is actually somewhat of a misnomer: the Orion OB1 Association is actually a grouping of a few dozen bright stars within a larger entity known as the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex, but I’d thought that the Orion OB1 Association was this larger entity; hence, what I’ve been calling the Orion OB1 Association should really be called the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex. However, retroactively renaming every reference I’ve made to the Orion OB1 Association to the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex would be very arduous, so I’ve decided that, in-universe, the name Orion OB1 Association is popularly used by sophonts for the whole OMCC as a sort of folk name, but the correct name OMCC (and the correct usage of Orion OB1 Association referring to the smaller grouping of stars) is still used as a scientific name; I’ve noted this on the Orion OB1 Association project page as well.

More Adapted Sectors, and Orion OB1 Data on TravellerMap

Since the previous post in this blog, several more sectors have been adapted to Traveller 5 formatting and revised:

  • Zao Kfeng Ig Grilokh Sector (original data by John G. Wood) – Jarrgh Subjugate and Far Stars Unanimity worlds
  • Kfazz Ghik Sector (original data by John G. Wood) – Authority of Joekghr worlds

Also, data from the Orion OB1 Association has been added to TravellerMap. This includes the data for Joyce’s Void and subsectors A-H of Mintaka Sector already posted here on Explorerbase, and initial/placeholder data (not yet posted on Explorerbase itself due to the small amount of data) for the following sectors:

  • Alnitak Sector
  • Nievoak Sector
  • Pi-4 Orionis Sector
  • Sigma Orionis Sector

The names of the remaining Orion OB1 sectors have also been added to TravellerMap.

Adapting Charted Space to Traveller 5

One ongoing project at Explorerbase that hasn’t previously been mentioned in one of the posts is the adaption of pre-existing (randomly-generated) sector data in Charted Space to Traveller 5 formatting, with the data being manually vetted/adapted in the process. So far this has been done for the following areas:

  • Hfiywitir Sector (original data by Joshua Bell) – subsectors E and F
  • Ahkiweahi’ Sector (original data by Joshua Bell) – Lanthusandr worlds
  • Chit Botshti Sector (original data by John G. Wood) – Taakas Yh’Drak worlds
  • Ghoekhnael Sector (original data by John G. Wood) – Taakas Yh’Drak and Brzeh Council worlds

New Orion OB1 Subsectors, and Write-Ups

Subsectors E, F, G and H of Mintaka Sector have now been added to the Sector Data section. Also, what had not yet been mentioned in a post is that this site now has a Write-Ups section too, which currently includes three articles (two on sophonts and one on polities).

Things currently being worked on include sector data for Driasera and Rim Reach Sectors, and an article about the polities of Amderstun Sector. New subsectors in the Orion OB1 Association may also be coming soon.

K’kree Project Cancelled; Rimward Projects Intensified

There’s a change in plans for Explorerbase – as Jim Kundert has been designated to create the sector data for the Two Thousand Worlds, no more K’kree “mostly-dotmap” sectors will be published here (and the Ruupiin data already posted has become redundant).

The flipside of this is that the time I was spending on the K’kree sectors can now be rerouted to other sector data, so sector data for the Orion OB1 Association and Rim Reach Sector will arrive to Explorerbase sooner than it otherwise would. Other sectors which I may work on in the near future include Driasera Sector and Kring Noor Sector.

Ruupiin Sector Data! (Mostly-Dotmap)

The first new sector data of this version of Explorerbase is up: Ruupiin! The data is “mostly-dotmap”: important worlds are detailed, the rest are placeholders.

This brings us to the topic of what other sector data will be coming to Explorerbase in the near future. Data published in the near future will probably be one of two types:

  • Mostly-DotmapTM data for K’kree sectors
  • Normal data for Orion OB1 Association sectors, though this will probably be published a few subsectors at a time rather than whole sectors, at least at first.

I’ve also been working on normal data for the sector Rim Reach, but this will probably take a bit longer to finish.
